GLENGOYNE SOLD BY EDRINGTON

Published:  23 July, 2008

Broxburn-based bottler and brand owner Ian Macleod & Co has purchased the Glengoyne distillery, in the latest disposal by the Edrington Group. This follows the news, just two weeks previously, that Edrington had sold its Bunnahabhain and Black Bottle brands to Burn Stewart Distillers. The Glengoyne distillery, which comes with the Glengoyne Single Malt and Langs blended whisky brands, allows Ian Macleod to become a fully integrated bottler, blender and distiller. Ian Good, chairman and chief executive of the Edrington Group, said this latest sale, along with the sale of Bunnahabhain and Black Bottle, is in line with the group's strategy of concentrating our investment resources behind developing our core brands', namely Famous Grouse, Cutty Sark, The Macallan and Highland Park. Leonard Russell, managing director of Ian Macleod & Co, said: As we have demonstrated with our more recent purchases, of Hedges & Butler Scotch whisky and Watson's [Trawler and Demerara] Rums, we have the commitment, experience and resources to add value to key brands.' Ian Macleod & Co now owns three operations in Scotland. No redundancies are planned as a result of the purchase. The Edrington Group now has ten Scottish operations, five of them distilleries.
