TESCO BACKS RIESLING

Published:  23 July, 2008

By Christian Davis

Tesco, the UK's largest wine retailer, has decided to get behind Riesling by introducing a range of wines from 2.99-14.99, sourced primarily from Germany, but also Australia. Ann-Marie Bostock, Tesco's category manager for wine, said: Riesling is the noblest of grapes and we thought we would include a new range as part of our Spring Festival, to deliver it to a wider audience. We see Riesling as a modern wine and a style we want to put in front of our customers,' she said. The German Rieslings include two sourced mainly from the Middle Mosel: the 2002 Simply Riesling from Moselland (at 2.99, a new addition to Tesco's Simply' range, and available in 493 stores) and 2002 Unwind Riesling from Moselland (4.99, 218 stores); as well as 2001 JL Wolf, Wachenheimer, Pfalz (8.49, 353 stores) and 2002 Dr Loosen Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Sptlese (12.99, 112 stores), both produced by Ernst Loosen. The Australian Rieslings are: 2002 Rosemount Estate Diamond Riesling (6.99, 353 stores); 2000 Leo Buring Special Release Eden Valley (9.99, 112 stores) and 1998 Leasingham Classic Clare Riesling (14.99, 112 stores).
