Scottish alcohol raid: one charged

Published:  14 September, 2011

Customs officers in Scotland have disrupted an illegal alcohol network following raids on an industrial unit and an off-licence.

Wine, spirits and beer worth more than £250,000 was seized and an alcohol relabeling facility was dismantled during the two-day operation.

Two men were detained and one has been charged with duty evasion.

John Fitzcharles,  HMRC's assistant director for criminal investigation, said: "These activities send a clear message to those tempted to become involved in crimes of this nature - we take alcohol fraud extremely seriously and will pursue anyone believed to be involved in this type of crime."
