Enotria has launched a training programme to give restaurant and bar staff greater confidence when serving wine.
The course is designed for front of house and bar staff in casual dining and pub venues, with very little or no previous knowledge of wine.
It aims to provide staff with more support and advice when serving wine and will be tailored to the establishment's own wine list. The programme is based around Enotria's research into customers' expectations of wine service.
John Grieveson, marketing director at Enotria, said: "Wine is a significant part of an outlet's revenue and very often gets limited focus. Staff training can have a profound impact on wine sales; however, just like the wine itself, we believe that all too often it too receives insufficient focus.
"We have identified that good customer service comes from attitude and skill. We know from consumer research conducted in casual dining restaurants that the level of wine knowledge and how wine is served can significantly impact a customer's overall perception of the venue."
