Cono Sur will be ferrying passengers in a cycle rickshaw from Victoria to the Wines of Chile tasting on September 8 in a bid to offset visitors' carbon footprints.

The pedicab can be booked in advance or picked up on the day at the junction of Victoria Street and Wilton Street.

Cono Sur is hoping the service will highlight its status as one of the world's greenest wineries. It claims to be the first wine producer in South America and only the third in the world to gain the ISO 14 064 certification, which is the most reliable measure of efficiency and accountability in the minimisation of greenhouse gas emissions.

It also became the world's first carbon neutral winery in 2007, according to a spokeswoman.

In keeping with Cono Sur's green message, a consumer marketing programme will kick off in the autumn with an online competition to reward cooks who produce food "that not only matches Cono Sur wines in terms of taste, but also its sustainability etho," she added.
