Coopers ale, the Australian beer which has a cult following in the UK, has joined the Bibendum portfolio.

Coopers ale, the Australian beer which has a cult following in the UK, has joined the Bibendum portfolio.

The company will have exclusive distribution rights for the brand, which is billed in Australian advertisements as "the beer the wine trade chooses".

Coopers was previously handled by Pierhead.

The brewery started in 1982 and is still owned by the family. The range features a Pale Ale and Sparkling Ale, both of which are bottled unpasteurised and have a natural sediment.

Bibendum spirits and beer manager Nick Rodgers said: "Coopers is a fantastic family-run brewery and its ales enjoy a brilliant reputation in the UK drinks trade. We are delighted they have joined forces with Bibendum and look forward to working with them to increase distribution and brand awareness amongst discerning beer drinkers. Interest in real ales and speciality beers is on the rise in the UK and Coopers are perfectly placed to capitalise upon this."

Bibendum will be distributing Coopers Pale Ale and Sparkling Ale in all channels including multiple grocers, independent retailers and the on trade. The Pale Ale has an RRP of £1.65 and the Sparkling Ale an RRP of £1.85.
