Stewart bolsters Asda's BWS team

Published:  23 July, 2008

Asda is strengthening its beers, wines and spirits (BWS) team by the appointment of two new product development managers, in addition to building a new category development team focussing on the "customer vision for BWS".

David Stewart, Asda BWS category director, said: "My vision is to create a trading team that will lead the industry.

"The new BWS structure comprises a team of buyers and wine product development managers who will work together towards the goal of growing our wine business and improving the quality and credibility of the Asda offering."

Becca Reeves and internal recruit Katie Mollet join Philippa Carr MW in roles designed to build Asda's wine reputation. Aged 28, Reeves joins as product development manager from wine company Thierry's, where she was national account manager.

Philippa Carr MW said: "Becca is full enthusiasm and is hungry to develop her award-winning skills to make a real impact. With a strong New World passion from Becca and growing insight from Katie, our range reviews later in the year should deliver a new standard of exciting quality wine at great value prices."

Stewart has also created a category team that will focus on several areas, including promotions and events, pricing strategy and corporate social responsibility. Asda is currently recruiting for a manager to work with Dewi Williams, who is driving marketing.

Among Asda's BWS team are an array of WSET holders, including Karen Doran, buying manager for wine. CJ Antall-Smith is leading beers and spirits as buying manager, with new recruit Drew Tiffin as spirits buyer.
