Fairtrade awareness rises with consumers

Published:  23 July, 2008

Seven out of ten consumers now recognise the Fairtrade logo, according to new research from the Fairtrade Foundation. The figure is up from 57% in 2007.

Understanding of what the mark means is also up, with 64% of the population linking the Fairtrade logo to a better deal for producers in the developing world.

And one in four shoppers say they regularly buy several products carrying the Fairtrade symbol.

But the Fairtrade Foundation said there was still "a long way to go".

Sales of Fairtrade products have risen by 72% from 286m in 2006 to 493m in 2007, according to recent figures.
