Foster's Wine Estates to conserve energy

Foster's to receive cash incentives for efficient use of electricity


The compnay, owner of seven premium wineries has joined 'Cut Back California', a programme that will hand out cash in return for conserving energy.

The programme, organised by Energy Curtailment Specialists, (ECS) wants to reduce the use of electricity where there is a shortage in the state.

Payment is dependant on the amount of electricity saved.

Foster's has the option of reducing the use of lights, air compressors, chiller systems, or curtailing other non-essential operations in order to conserve electricity if and when problems arise in the grid.

ECS then measures their conservation and compensates them for their cut backs.

"Cut Back California is a great way for us to serve our community while saving on our energy budget, we are proud to be involved," Lynne Ryno production manager at Beringer Vineyards said.

The programme seeks to increase grid reliability by shifting electric use from peak periods to off-peak hours.

Other wineries in the programme include Canandaigua Winery, F Korbel and Brothers along with smaller estates.
