WSET School London – the drinks education organisation’s flagship location – has announced the launch of its first LGBT+ speed dating night, taking place on 1 October.
The night will bring together single LGBT+ wine lovers for an evening of wine, snacks, quizzes and wine-themed challenges at the School on Bermondsey Street.
Two simultaneous speed dating events will occur concurrently, with one for women looking to meet women and another for men looking to meet men. Both events are trans-inclusive.
WSET noted that as “people don’t always identify with traditional gender labels”, guests are welcome to book the event that feels right for them. The WSET School London team will answer any questions prior to booking.
Commenting on the event, Richard Harding, principal at WSET School London, explained: “Wine is about so much more than what’s in the glass – it brings people together, creates conversation and helps us discover new things. We wanted to take that spirit and create a fun, welcoming evening specifically for LGBT+ wine lovers.”
A welcome drink will be poured on arrival, and attendees will have the chance to meet singles one-on-one.
Different wine activities will be proposed for each meeting as an icebreaker, from blind tastings to wine quizzes and label drawing challenges.
A group competition centring around wine and cheese will also take place in the foyer to give attendees the chance to meet more wine lovers and enjoy a selection of snacks and wines.
WSET added that the event “reflects a broader commitment to creating inclusive wine experiences” and in helping people to connect through a shared interest.
WSET is a global leader in drinks education, setting the international standard for qualifications in wine, spirits, sake and beer.
Its school in London is its flagship education provider. On top of a range of drinks courses for professionals and enthusiasts, it also organises over 100 tastings and events at all levels every year.
WSET speed dating: queer edition (as the event is known) will take place from 6:30pm-9:00pm on 1 October. Tickets are avaliable for £40 – including the drinks and the cheese.
