Canned wine brand Hun smashes crowdfunding target

Published:  26 January, 2021

Canned wine brand Hun Wines, which is backed by Waitrose CEO James Bailey, smashed its £400k crowdfunding target on the day of public launch.

Having exceeded its target in less than two hours since its public launch, and less than 72 hours since its private launch on 22 January, Hun said it would now overfund to £600k.

The aim was to increase distribution across the UK, expand into new global territories and to introduce new product development, the London-based start-up added.

“It’s incredibly encouraging to see our crowdfunding campaign exceed its target so quickly and on the day that it opens up to the public. There is huge excitement from investors not only in the Hun brand, but also the wider canned wine market, which is set to grow exponentially thanks to its convenience and eco-credentials that really resonate with millennial wine drinkers,” said Hun founder and director, Mark Woollard.

“With 40 days left on the campaign, we plan to overfund to £600k which will be used to increase distribution and for NPD. This is a great opportunity for anyone who has ever dreamed of owning their own wine brand,” he added.

Launched in April 2020, Hun’s board of directors include Waitrose CEO James Bailey and former Brewdog CEO and Red Bull UK MD, Andy Shaw.

All of Hun’s wines are vegan, Fairtrade and sourced from the Stellenbosch region in South Africa, with the initial range comprising a pale rosé 2019; a sparkling rosé 2019 and a Sauvignon Blanc 2019.

Hun’s equity crowdfunding campaign is live now on Seerds.

As the canned wine category continued to gather pace, US canned wine brand Babe made its UK debut with a French sparkling rosé developed specially for the British market in July last year.
