Romania's Cramele Recaș winery certified vegan

Published:  09 May, 2019

Cramele Recaș, Romania’s largest winery, has been certified as vegan following an inspection by the Bureau Veritas Certification.

The approval makes it the first vegan winery in Romania. Cramele Recaș, which was founded in 1998, creates wine from a range of grape varieties, from popular international to indigenous Romanian, and produces the top selling Pinot Grigio in the UK.

It is also Romania’s biggest exporter of bottled wine and says it is a “major player” in the domestic market. Its natural and vegan orange wine was recently listed in Aldi.

Last year it revealed a £5 million expansion plan to produce an additional four million litres of wine, taking its total capacity to 30 million to handle rising exports, which were up 124% in Germany, 58% to the Netherlands and 18% for the UK. Overall exports have doubled since 2014 to eight million bottles.
