Bibendum appoints new head of technical

Published:  04 January, 2019

Bibendum has appointed Carmel Kilcline MW as its new head of technical as Stephen Walder retires.

Taking up her new position with immediate effect, Kilcline joins Bibendum after working as an independent consultant, running technical, educational and wine communication projects.

Kilcline, who has in the past also held positions at both Sainsbury’s and Diageo, will in her new role oversee all aspects of wine production at Bibendum.

Bringing with her an “immense amount of knowledge and expertise” alongside a “wealth of technical knowledge”, Kilcline was a “fantastic addition” to the team, said buying director Andrew Shaw, adding Walder deserved a “well-earned retirement“ following his more than four decades long career in the wine industry.

“Walder retires after a highly acclaimed career in the wine trade, working for PLB for 20 years and Bibendum PLB for four, and we wish him all the best in his retirement,” he said.

Kilcline, who received her MW in 2005, said: “This company is hallowed ground in terms of the UK wine scene and I am looking forward to working with the talented team there, in driving continued product excellence, and in engaging customers and consumers alike with their incredible portfolio of wines.”

The latest appointment follows Bibendum creating a sales director for spirits position last month with the aim of broadening its reach into the premium side of the category.

Mukesh Kejriwal has been appointed to the newly created role and will join the team 16 January from Venus Wines and Spirits, where he has worked for 18 years having held the position of national sales director for ‘the prestige on-trade’ for the past 10.
