Stellenbosch producer Neil Ellis Wines has appointed Gonzalez Byass UK as their distributor for the UK.
From February 2019, they will sit alongside, Tio Pepe, Bodegas Beronia, Vilarnau and Veramonte from Chile in the GBUK portfolio.
Founder Neil Ellis is known for producing terroir-driven wines and hunting out the best sits for his grapes from across the Jonkershoek Valley and the Bottelary Hills (Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage) and the Piekenierskloof (Grenache).
The Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Chardonnay come from the cool coastal sites of Groenekloof and Elgin.
Today, Neil Ellis Wines is a family business, with offspring Warren, Charl and Margot all working at the winery in Stellenbosch.
On deciding to move distribution to GBUK, Ellis said: “First and foremost, at their roots, they are a family company with genuine values of working in long-term partnerships for mutual success. We firmly believe that GBUK can raise the profile of Neil Ellis in the UK and introduce our wine to a wider wine drinking public. We are joining a portfolio of like-minded premium producers and know that the team at GBUK will also be great ambassadors for Neil Ellis Wines.”
Martin Skelton, managing director of Gonzalez Byass UK added: “At Cape Wine in September, I was blown away by the amazing quality and consistency across the range. For me, as best winery at the show, it is quite humbling that Neil Ellis and his family should wish to work with us in this market.”
