Henkell & Co Sektkellerei and Freixenet SA will be known as Henkell Freixenet in the New Year to reflect the companies merging.
The new name and logo will come into effect from 1 January 2019.
The move comes after Henkell & Co, the Oetker Group’s wine and spirits division, acquired a 50.7% stake in Grupo Freixenet earlier this year to become the world’s largest sparkling wine group with an 8% share of the global sparkling wine market.
The Spanish-German alliance will grant Henkell and Freixenet access to “new markets and distribution channels”, said the merged business.
The Henkell Group owns Mionetto, the best-selling prosecco globally and Freixenet sells sparkling wine in 140 countries.
The businesses’ joint operations in the US and UK will start in 2019 as “Freixenet-Mionetto” and “Freixenet-Copestick”, respectively.
In 2017, Henkell & Co Group’s revenues amounted to EUR 702 million, Meanwhile, Freixenet SA generated EUR 535 million in the past financial year. Together, the two companies employ 4,000 people worldwide.
