Edinburgh Gin has unveiled plans to invest in a new multi-million-pound distillery in Edinburgh city centre.
The development includes the acquisition of large-scale premises on East Market Street, in the heart of the city’s historic ‘Old Town’.
According to Edinburgh Gin the new distillery will mean it will increase production capacity by over 200% to cater for demand.
The new distillery will also have an Edinburgh Gin experience where visitors can learn about the history of gin-making alongside a sensory immersion into flavour, botanicals and distilling. Visitors will also have the chance to make their own gin at the new premises, which will be able to welcome over 100,000 visitors through its doors each year.
Its existing Edinburgh Gin Visitor Centre and Distillery is currently located at the West End and is ranked among the capital’s leading 5-star visitor attractions.
First-stage plans for the three floor premises (total area is 1,357m2) include a glass-fronted entrance with a street-side view, a rooftop terrace featuring Edinburgh Gin botanicals and private gin tasting rooms.

The core portfolio includes: Edinburgh Gin (ABV 43%), Seaside Edinburgh Gin (ABV 43%), and Cannonball Edinburgh Gin (ABV 43%).
It gin liqueurs includes Raspberry (ABV 20%), Elderflower (ABV 20%), Rhubarb & Ginger (ABV 20%), Plum & Vanilla (ABV 20%) and Pomegranate & Rose (ABV 20%) perfect for cocktails, after dinner drinks and desserts.
The planning process is now underway and Edinburgh Gin is working with Staran Architects with Contagious leading the design of the new premises with input from various specialist designers including Rankin Fraser, Rybka and Etive Consulting.
