Ehrmanns has partnered with Rioja winery Bodegas Palacio to become the exclusive UK distributor of the Glorioso and Cosme Palacio brands.
The winery controls 200 hectares of vineyards with a focus on classic Rioja styles, which are 100% Tempranillo, as well as traditional whites from predominantly Viura.
Offering “outstanding quality and value”, the wines would enhance Errmanns’ Iberian portfolio, which it extended last week with the addition of Txakoli producers, Astobiza Estate.
“These two are exceptional brands and from an exemplary producer in the Rioja Alavesa region,” said Peter Dauthieu, director, Ehrmanns.
Ehrmanns had the “strength and expertise” Bodegas Palacio was looking for to develop its distribution in the UK, said Stephane Desmarquest, export director, Bodegas Palacio.
“Being part of its portfolio is a clear opportunity to position our wines into premium distribution channels.”
Based in Laguardia, the heart of Rioja Alavesa, Bodegas Palacio was founded in 1894 and forms part of the Grupo Bodegas Palacio 1894, which has estates in DOCa Rioja, DO Ribera del Duero, DO Toro, Valladolid and DO Rueda.
The cooler climate and generous rainfall in Rioja Alavesa lends the wines their trademark freshness and elegance, with ageing primarily in French oak barrels.
