WSET appoints new principal

Published:  27 September, 2018

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) has appointed a new principal following Jim Gore’s departure last month.

New to the wine and spirit trade, WSET’s new principal Richard Harding brings a strong background in education, joining from Nacro where he managed the national education provider’s education delivery across London and the South of England, specialising in a wide range of vocational training spanning various sectors.

In his new role, Harding is responsible for maintaining the teaching standards of WSET School London, managing and developing the team of WSET Certified Educators and planning the annual schedule of courses and tasting events.

Harding, which takes on his new role with immediate effect, had all the key skills required to manage the “phenomenal”demand for qualifications the school is seeing”, said WSET development director Graham Cox.

“Richard’s extensive experience of managing the delivery of Ofqual-accredited qualifications in the public will help enable us to continue delivering world-class qualifications and additional learning programmes through our flagship school,” he said.

Having always had a “natural passion” for wine and spirits, Harding said he was “thrilled to join this dynamic industry and help drive it forward by supporting professionals and consumers to become more knowledgeable”.

Gore left the wine education charity after a six-year stint – two years as principal - to set up his own school - the Global Wine Academy, which is focused on revision classes for WSET Diploma students rather than offering WSET courses.
