UN recognises Pernod Ricard for sustainability

Published:  24 September, 2018

Pernod Ricard has been recognised as a Global Compact LEAD company, for its ongoing commitment to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The group is the only wine and spirits company to receive the recognition this year.

Global Compact LEAD companies are recognised annually for demonstrating an ongoing commitment to sustainability.

During the UN Global Compact Leaders’ Summit 2018 at the UN Headquarters in New York, Pernod Ricard was acknowledged as one of the “highest-engaged” participants of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.

The group has reported on its achievement to meet the SDGs, which include commitments to no poverty, sustainable cities and communities, to take urgent action to combat climate change and to reduce inequalities.

It has also worked with its supply chains and joins other top companies such as Danone, Nestlé and Unilever on this global platform.

“Since our early beginnings, we have taken bold steps to ensure a sustainable and responsible approach is integrated throughout our business and we look forward to continuing our journey with Global Compact to embed these practices even further – doing our part to help achieve the 2030 SDG,” said Alexandre Ricard, chairman and CEO of Pernod Ricard, which has been a member of the voluntary sustainability initiative Global Compact since 2003.

LEAD companies represented the highest level of engagement with the UN Global Compact,” said Lise Kingo, CEO and executive director of the UN Global Compact.

“Achieving the SDG and creating the world we want will not happen without bold action from the responsible business community,” she said.

Pernod Ricard is the world’s number two in wine and spirits with consolidated sales of €8,987 million (FY18).
