Milestone Wines is looking to add two further agencies to the business, its new director of agency sales has said.
Mark Motley, who joined the company four weeks ago, told Harpers the company was looking at small producers in Spain and one in Italy to go with the predominantly New Zealand and Australian offering.
The development follows Milestone’s purchase of Aussie Rules Ltd, a specialist Australian wine importer, at the start of the year.
“The reception to the wines had been very positive,” said Motley.
“We’re expecting a number of new customers to come on board and we’re looking to add further agencies as we go - we have two in the offing but we don’t want to start adding agencies left, right and centre. We need to make sure that what we’ve got is adequate and suitably focused."
Motley, a former shareholder in North South Wines and ex-director of independent trade at Erhmanns Wine Shippers, joined Milestone, which supplies UK-based restaurants, wine merchants and selected private clients, because he was “seeking a new challenge.”
“I tasted the Milestone range at the SITT tastings earlier in the year and I was hugely impressed with what was on offer,” he added. “I am enthusiastic about the quality and value of the Milestone offering along with the focused direction of the company, which appeals to my own ethos. I am looking forward to working with existing customers and to showing the Milestone agencies to a host of new clientele.”
