Head of WSET School London branches out on his own

Published:  02 August, 2018

Jim Gore, DipWSET and Principal of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) School London, has left the wine education charity to set up his own school.

Gore, who has been at the WSET for six years of which he was principal for two, has set up the Global Wine Academy, which will be focused on revision classes for WSET Diploma students rather than offering WSET courses.

With students always most anxious about the tasting exams, the academy would specialize in masterclasses aimed at calibrating students’ palates to the WSET Diploma standard and strengthening analysis and assessment skills, said Gore.

There would also be a focus on how to maximize marks in the tasting exams, he added.

With a sharp focus on helping WSET Diploma students succeed, the revision tasting masterclasses are aligned to the three sections of the Diploma - fortified wines, sparkling wines and wines of the world.

“The day will give us plenty of time to ensure everyone’s palate is calibrated to the Diploma standard and each student will be able to address areas they find especially challenging or tricky,” said Gore.

Each session is scheduled just ahead of the relevant exam sessions so that anyone travelling to London for the exams as well as those based in the city can attend with ease, he added.

In addition to the masterclasses, Gore will also release a model tasting note every week of the year looking at an easily available wine.

Open for bookings now, the first masterclass will take place this November.

WSET said it will be announcing Gore's replacement later this month.
