Piper-Heidsieck promotes Séverine Frerson to Chef de Cave

Published:  15 June, 2018

Piper-Heidsieck has promoted Séverine Frerson to the role of Chef de Cave.

Frerson, who joined the Champagne house in 2002 and was promoted to deputy Cellar Master in 2015, takes over from eight-time sparkling winemaker of the year Régis Camus.

Going forward, Camus will dedicate his time to Rare Champagne - the prestige Brand of the House.

The appointment of Frerson marked a significant and historical moment in Champagne, making her the only female Chef de Cave to oversee a top 10 Champagne house, said Piper-Heidsieck.

Having worked alongside Camus for 16 years, Frerson boasted all the necessary qualities to assume the duties of Cellar Master, which include being in charge of the style, finesse and quality of all the various cuvées produced by the house, said global executive director Benoit Collard.

“For many years, Régis fulfilled this role flawlessly, shepherding Piper-Heidsieck to the pinnacles of excellence. When he decided to devote himself to the new challenge of Cellar Master for Rare Champagne the name of his successor was obvious to both him and me - Séverine Frerson, a cheerful and determined young woman who has worked hand-in-hand with Régis for a long time,” he said.

In her new role, Frerson would lead Piper-Heidsieck to “even higher summits of perfection and success”, he added.

“Séverine is a woman who is capable of charting a new course in our history, providing a link between our craft and lovers of champagne, between our most magnificent vintages and those who cherish our House already to those who will soon discover us,” he said.
