Bolney turns to screwcap

Bolney Wine Estate has announced going forward it's replacing its cork closures across its still wine portfolio with screwcaps.

The move will see all of the new vintage releases this year, available from April, bottled with screwcap closure.

For the 2017 vintage wines, the Sussex winery has chosen to hot-foil brand the Vinotwist cap, which has Saranex lining and allows similar permeability to the corks that Bolney previously used.

The producer said, as well as reducing packaging as they are fully recycable, the new closures were more reliable than corks when it came to keeping oxygen out.

The move to screwcaps formed part of Bolney's constant search for "improving its processes and increase efficiency", said MD, Sam Linter.

“Our transition to screwcaps has been done with careful consideration, diligence and planning,” she said, adding with Bolney’s still wines crafted to be fresh, fruity and consumed young - within four years of release - the screwcap was the perfect choice of closure.

Bolney, which is one of the longest established English vineyards, portfolio comprises a selection of white, red and sparkling wines, with its fizz produced following the same traditional method as is used to produce Champagne.
