The Wine Society CEO McMillan steps down

The Wine Society has announced its CEO of almost six years,Robin McMillan, will be stepping down at the end of this month.

McMillian, who leaves after nearly six years at the helm, will be replaced by Liz Cerroti, head of member experience on The Society’s executive team, who will take over on an interim basis.

Following McMillian’s decision to step down chairman, Sarah Evans, said he left The Wine Society in a “healthy and positive position as a business and within our competitive industry”.

“On behalf of the committee I would like to thank him for all his work over the last six years and join with Society members and staff in wishing him well for the future.”

Under McMillian’s leadership, turnover at The Wine Society has grown by 45%, with active membership having grown by over 25,000, now standing at 140,000.

“I am proud to have led this sustained growth of the business and the significant investments that have been made to deliver the best possible services for our members,” said McMillan.

As CEO, McMillan championed the development of people within the business and was instrumental in the introduction of the Employee Engagement, Executive Management and Manager/Specialist Development programmes.

In addition, he has overseen the new digital strategy which has been a significant investment for the business and has delivered “much-needed” exciting new functionality and content on the website, resulting in increased member satisfaction and sustained growth, said Evans.

In the past 18 months, The Wine Society has focussed on communication with members, innovations in a new web-based ‘Community’ for Society members alongside “important work” on its ‘brand personality’.
