Dark Horse posts ‘outstanding’ UK performance

Published:  05 February, 2018

E&J Gallo has reported a 54% hike in UK sales of its Dark Horse Californian wine brand for the year ending 31 December, 2017.

The brand, which claims to be the UK’s bestselling US 'premium' wine, said sales had been driven by its Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc varietals.

On the back of the impressive growth, E&J Gallo said it would be doubling its marketing investment to “continue to drive brand growth and ensure that Dark Horse wines are the instinctive choice for consumers when buying premium wines”.

“Dark Horse winemaker, Beth Liston, remains committed to quality and making wine that everyone should get to enjoy and consumers will get greater quality out of a bottle of Dark Horse than they might have expected for the price they paid for the wine,” said Paul Sorrentino, VP and general manager EMEA.

As part of the brand’s drive to increase awareness and visibility, Dark Horse last month unveiled new packaging across its portfolio.

The label, which increases premium cues, features a larger, more prominent version of the iconic Dark Horse logo and attractive cap colours designed to enhance visual cues, with The Dark Horse Chardonnay displaying the IWSC Silver and Berlin Wine Trophy Gold Medals.
