Pebblebed Vineyards founder Geoff Bowen passes away

Published:  08 January, 2018

Geoff Bowen, founder of Devon vineyard Pebblebed, has passed away.

It’s believed that Bowen, whose vineyard became famous after he won the support of Duncan Ballantyne on TV's Dragons Den in 2011, passed away over the weekend from unknown causes.

Bowen’s proposal on the popular show caused a row between Dragons Deborah Meaden and Duncan Bannatyne, before Bannatyne became an investor and stumped up £60,000 to expand the business.

A well know Devon entrepreneur, Bowen – who was in his early fifthies, is said to have been a huge part of the local community with 500 people helping bring in the annual grape harvest.

Pebblebed Vineyard was launched in 1999 with Bowen producing his first wine, called Dodo Bird, in 2002.

By 2006, it’s estimated the entrepreneur was producing 10,000 bottles of wine, before more than doubling it to 25,000 units in 2010.
