Plumpton College boosts wine team with new experts

Published:  18 October, 2017

Plumpton College, in East Sussex, has strengthened its wine business and production teaching team with the appointment of two international wine experts.

Lindsay Holas from New York, and Dr Gregory Dunn, an Australian, have been appointed as lecturers at the higher education institution’s wine department.

Holas, who has been appointed wine business lecturer, brings extensive international marketing experience from Jascots Wine Merchant (UK), Domaine Select Wine Estates (NY, USA) and Wine Intelligence (UK). She holds an MSc in Wine Business from Dijon and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, Montreal.

Dunn, who has 20 years of experience in research, education and industry training in the Australian wine industry, will lead Plumpton’s MSc in Viticulture and Oenology. He has worked for DPI Victoria, the University of Melbourne, and the National Wine and Grape Industry Centre at Wagga Wagga, where he was deputy director.

Currently deputy editor for the Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research, his research interests include grapevine reproductive biology, yield management and the application of technology in vineyards.

The new appointments, which come amid the rise of world class English sparkling and still wine production, were “extremely valuable additions” to Plumpton College’s wine division team, said the business.

Plumpton College’s wine department is Britain’s centre of excellence in wine education, training and research.

It delivers industry training and university courses in wine business and production as well as producing outstanding wines. It’s the only higher education institution in Europe to deliver wine education courses in English. Each year, it attracts numerous students from around the world.
