Boutinot has acquired Henners Vineyard in East Sussex for an undisclosed sum, marking the first time it brings its winemaking expertise to English shores.

Henners, a key Boutinot agency partner since its first vintage in 2012, has 10 acres of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines on sandstone soils at 24 metres above sea level.

The range currently comprises three Traditional Method Cuvées, a Vintage, Vintage Reserve and Rosé NV, which has been available to the UK off and on-trade via UK-based Boutinot for the past five years.

Henners was a "perfect fit" for Boutinot, said MD Dennis Whiteley, adding the business could not wait to "dig deep into the potential we know is there for English wine".

"We want to get under the skin of everywhere we're working, that's why we're making our own wines in France, Italy, South Africa and around the world, and it's why we've jumped at the chance to see what we can do on our own doorstep."

Established in 1980 as an importer and distributor, Boutinot began to produce its own wines in France in 1989, with South Africa joining the family in 1994 followed by Italy in 2003.

Its comprehensive Made by Boutinot portfolio sits alongside the 100-plus agencies that the company represent.
