Following a strategic review of its closure policy, leading multiple grocer, Tesco, has approved DIAM as a preferred closure for use in its own-label wines.
The strategy, designed to raise the quality threshold of closures used across its own-label range, prioritises screwcap, DIAM and high-grade natural cork.
The outcome of the review is a major boost for the DIAM closure following the recent launch of DIAM 2, DIAM 3 and DIAM 5 - a range of closures with varying levels of gas transmission and permeability. The closures also come with a guarantee that they will hold their physical properties for a minimum of 2, 3 and 5 years.
Commenting on the development, Oeneo International Commercial Director Dean Banister said: "This is a clear statement from one of the world's most successful retailers that DIAM is the only real alternative to screwcap. DIAM is a neutral cork based closure that doesn't taint, scalp, is consistent and can offer a range of gas transmission options. We are delighted that Tesco has acknowledged DIAM as one of its preferred methods of closure."
Andrew Gale, Tesco BWS Technical Category Manager added: "We have been working with Oeneo for over 5 years and both DIAM and DIAM Mytik, Oeneo's sparkling wine closure, have undergone the most rigorous technical trials in the industry. The results have been nothing but positive and we remain committed to the DIAM closure."
