Pioneering Languedoc producer Val d'Orbieu has extended the Muscat de St Jean de Minervois range to include the premium positioned Vendanges d'Automne.
Priced at 11.99, a parcel of the wine will be on-shelves in Co-op from March.
Produced in the famed late-harvest AOC of St Jean de Minervois, Vendanges d'Automne is produced from 100 per cent hand picked Muscat Petit Grain and has an alcohol content of 15.5 per cent. A small percentage of the wine is aged in oak barriques to add further complexity.
Naturally sweet as a result of an extended ripening period, the wine has a sugar content of 130g/L. Benefiting from a combination of altitude, limestone schist soils and the characteristic white' pudding stones, wine produced from St Jean de Minervois vineyards is characterised by concentrated flavours, high levels of natural acidity and natural residual sugar.
The Vendanges d'Automne Co-op listing will be supported by a consumer marketing promotion, with main prizes of trips to St Jean de Minervois and the Languedoc. The promotion, which will be communicated via stylised bottle collars will direct consumers to a dedicated Muscat de St Jean de Minervois website. The website, www.lovelanguedoc.com, will feature brand news, an overview of the AOC and its wines and further consumer competitions. The competition will be live' and on-shelf from the 21st of March.
Commenting on the promotion, Clment Carrire, Val d'Orbieu UK & Ireland sales manager said: "We are delighted to be supporting this premium Muscat de St Jean listing with a value added consumer focused promotion. Activities of this nature incentivise' the consumer and enable us to create a sense of place for the brand and its wines."
The Muscat de St Jean range also includes Petit Grain, Selection de Petit Grain and Eclats Blancs variants. All three wines are also produced using 100 per cent Muscat Petit Grains.
