Next week sees the launch of Director's Cut, the new iteration from craft gin distillery Portobello Road. It promises to be the first London dry gin to be made with asparagus.
Bottled and labeled by hand, only 1,000 bottles of Director's Cut will be available.
Portobello Gin director, Paul Lane sourced the 10kg of British asparagus he required from Cambridgeshire producer, Will Aveling.
The new gin has been distilled by master blender, Jake Burger. Other botanicals used include Gentian root, juniper berries, cassia bark, nutmeg, lemon and orange peel.
Lane said: "We take immense pride in our craft when producing Portobello Road Gin, distilling with integrity and individuality. But with the Directors' Cut we're able to take our passion for experimentation to a whole new level.
"We've been experimenting with the more unusual botanicals for years and have dreamed of hand-picking our own botanicals and using them to bring a special edition gin to the market.
We've played around with the botanical of British Asparagus at the Ginstitute for a couple of years, where gin fans can come up with their own creation but this is the first time we've worked with a producer directly to select the produce and create a gin for sale.
This is not a gin for everybody but those who like it love it. Before you ask, no it doesn't..."
Director's Cut will be launched at the Portobello Star in Notting Hill, London next Wednesday 21 October. It has a 47% ABV.
It will be available from www.portobelloroadgin.com and selected independent retailers with an RRP of £39.
Portobello Road Gin is available in store and online from Waitrose, Selfridges, Tesco and Harvey Nichols. RRP £25.
