Badét Clement buys Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards in Languedoc

Published:  21 September, 2015

French wine producer Badet Clément has acquired its own vineyards in the Languedoc region with the purchase of Domaine de la Métairie d'Alon.

The 25ha property grows a mix of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the high valley of the Aude.

Badet Clément bought the Monze Cave coopérative in the Aude in January to give it vinification and ageing capability in the region.

It followed that up with a UK distribution deal with Jigsaw Drinks in July.

Badet Clément president Laurent said: "We've been looking for a vineyard to buy for years, able to produce top quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

"In Domaine de la Métairie d'Alon we believe we've finally found the exceptional terroirs that we've been searching for."

Burgundian Delaunay's created the Languedoc brand Les Jamelles 20 years ago and bought the Abbotts winery in the region in 2005, renaming it Abbotts & Delaunay in 2011.

Delaunay's ambition is to become the "ultimate specialist" for the Burgundy grapes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Languedoc.

The wines of Métairie d'Alon will be integrated into his Abbotts & Delaunay Collection and from the 2015 harvest the majority grapes will be vinified at the Monze site.
