Fairtrade and South African wine specialist Origin Wine has opened a new sales office to cover the North American market in a bid to establish what the company called "a global sourcing footprint".
The new operation will be headed by Vincent Hanna as chief executive officer and joins a network that includes offices in the UK, South Africa, Sweden and Switzerland.
Origin North America will open up a more direct supply route for Origin brands including La Folie Douce from France, Calitalia from Italy, R&Y from Spain, Life from South Africa and Mendoza Vineyards from Argentina.
"It is about time that we tackle this huge market with a direct approach as per our model in other markets," said Origin's global chief executive officer Bernard Fontannaz.
"I believe we will soon achieve some material sales in what is now the biggest wine market."
Hanna added: "It is a marvellous opportunity to start a new venture with Origin. With innovative brands and a well-established direct and controlled sourcing structure, Origin is able to offer a much needed one stop shop for the US market."
