Paul Symington

2013 saw excellent conditions throughout August, and the company was able to pick the grapes before the onslaught of unsettled weather during the main picking season

According to Paul Symington, chairman of Symington Family Estates, port is set to overtake sherry in value sales in the off-trade in the next two years if current trends continue. Port saw strong sales over the key Christmas period this year, however he argued that it was vital that Port houses build on the momentum and ensure the category remains relevant not only to the wine trade but to consumers.

The family company is one of the leading quality Port producer, with brands such as Graham's, Cockburn's, Dow's and Warre's. It is also the leading vineyard owner in the valley with 1006 hectares (2,486 acres) of vines at 27 quintas.
