Rockett replaces Emma Wykes, who has been at Marblehead for the past six years.

Rockett was marketing director and founder member of the UK arm of Spanish wine company Gonzalez Byass for the past 10 years. He was charged with marketing the firm's own brands including its famous sherries Tio Pepe and Croft Original, alongside Beronia wine and Soberano brandy. Gonzalez Byass agency brands include Quinta do Noval Port, Jackson Estate from New Zealand, Wirra Wirra from South Australia, Undurraga from Chile and Champagne Deutz.

Quintessential founder Warren Scott said Rockett "brings a wealth of management experience to the group and his particular expertise working with the prestige on-trade fits perfectly with Marblehead's plans for growth".

He added: "We are grateful to Emma for leading Marblehead over the past two years, particularly during the company's acquisition by the Quintessential Brands Group in July 2014, and we wish her well in  her new venture."

Yesterday it was announced that Marblehead has signed a distribution agreement with Diageo to distribute its orange-flavoured bitters Amer Picon and Canadian blended whiskey Crown Royal spirits from March 1, 2015. Both products are new to the UK market. The arrangement extends to both the on and off-trade throughout Great Britain.

Quintessential Brands was founded by Enzo Visone and Warren Scott and the group companies include Marblehead Brand Development, the Quintessential Brands Company, Essential Drinks, G&J Distillers and First Ireland Spirits.

The portfolio includes Greenall's Gin, Bloom Gin, Berkeley Square London Dry Gin, Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin, Toussaint Coffee Rum Liqueur, O'Mara Irish Country Cream, Feeney's Irish Cream Liqueur and The Dubliner Irish Whiskey.
