Buckingham Schenk to ramp up on-trade focus with Argentinian wine brand

Published:  22 January, 2015

Buckingham Schenk is planning to ramp up its foothold on the on-trade with new Argentinian wine brand Phebus, sister brand of its star off-trade performer Vinalba.

Craig Durham, newly-appointed managing director of the firm told Harpers.co.uk that the coming year was about "coming up with interesting and innovative ideas as well as focusing on where we're strong".

It is planning to expand its current brands, such as Vinalba, as well as resurrecting others, such as Australia's Buckingham Estate.

Vinalba, its joint venture Argentinian brand with Fabre Montmayou, saw sales up 30% to 900,000 bottles in 2014. It has launched a sub-brand Parilla in Majestic and an on-trade brand Phebus. Durham described the opportunities as "immense".

Prosecco Baccio della Luna and pre-filled goblets Intrepid Fox are also performing well and Durham forecasts that will continue.

The group now has over 40 on-trade accounts, from when it started targeting the sector almost two years ago.

Buckingham Schenk, based in Slough, Berkshire, sells around 15 million bottles of wine per year. Its European parent firm Schenk sells around 250 million bottles of wine per year, as well as owning a host of wine estates across the continent.
