Spanish bottle manufacturer Vidrala has completed its acquisition of fellow glass manufacturer, filler and logistics firm Encirc.

Spanish bottle manufacturer Vidrala has completed its acquisition of fellow glass manufacturer, filler and logistics firm Encirc.

Earlier this week news broke that Vidrala was the preferred bidder out of five firms, and the purchase moved to a swift conclusion today.

Encirc, which traded as Quinn Glass and Cobevco until May last year, will retain its own identity within Vidrala, and be managed by the current team under managing director Adrian Curry.

The group has 1,200 employees across two facilities in Derrylin, Fermanagh, and Elton, Cheshire.

The Derrylin and Elton plants manufacture container glass for the UK and Ireland food and drink sectors while the Elton plant also provides a beverage filling and logistics service.

Curry said: "Vidrala has a sizeable presence in Europe and has committed to supporting Encirc's continued development and investment. This will ensure that the business will continue to grow, innovate, maintain and enhance its market-leading position to the benefit of Encirc's employees, customers, suppliers and local communities alike".

Gorka Schmitt, chief executive of Vidrala, said: "This integration will enhance the resulting group's position in the European glass packaging market. Encirc has demonstrated a solid market share in recent years thanks to the engagement of its employees, its modern facilities, competitiveness and strong customer relationships.

"Vidrala has demonstrated capabilities in the integration of companies within its group, promoting their respective local footprints, developing industrial sites, adding its well proven expertise in the glass packaging business and improving customer satisfaction. This acquisition represents an important milestone for Vidrala. The integration will ensure both Vidrala and Encirc are better placed for the future."

Vidrala has production facilities across Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium and France, most of which were acquired in the last 10 years. Its latest accounts for the nine months to the end of September 2014, show sales of €363 million and an operating profit of more than €54 million.
