The new Bombay Sapphire Distillery

The new Bombay Sapphire distillery at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire is set to open its doors to the public tomorrow for the very first time.

The Laverstoke Mill was previously a paper mill that produced banknote paper for the Bank of England and the British Empire for nearly 250 years. Before the building was bought by Bombay Sapphire brand owners Bacardi, it had lain abandoned for a number of years.

A highlight of the modern renovated visitor centre and distillery are the two greenhouses that will house the 10 botanicals that go into the Bombay Sapphire gin. The glass houses will be heated by air generated by the distillation process. In addition to the greenhouses, visitors can visit a botanical drying room, a 'heritage room' that reviews the history of the mill, a gin gift shop and an on-site bar.

The distillery will also run daily workshops that visitors can pre-book that will be hosted by 'gin experts' and cover topics on cocktail masterclasses or the ultimate gin & tonic workshop.

The glasshouses have been designed by British designer Thomas Heatherwick. The building is Britain's only processing plant with a BREEAM rating, which is "outstanding" for building sustainability.

The space will also be available to rent for private events.
