Birmingham launches weekend wine festival

Published:  14 April, 2014

The organisers of Birmingham's first weekend wine festival are hoping to attract 2,000 consumers to the event in June.

The Birmingham Wine Festival, which will take place at the Hyatt Regency on June 13 and 14, is aiming to make quality wine more accessible for Midlands consumers.

Harpers Data & Insight report shows that 41% of Midlands consumers won't spend more than £5 on a bottle of wine, compared to 12% of Londoners. In the north east, only 2% are happy to spend more than £10 and organisers want to help change people's perceptions.

Birmingham Wine Festival co-founder Amy Seton said: "Birmingham's food and drink scene has developed massively over the last few years yet there has never been a weekend long wine festival in the city. With the launch of places like Loki Wine and the heritage with places like Connolly's and Laithwaite's there is clearly a desire for those in the city and surrounding areas for an event like this."

Over 300 wines will be available to taste and masterclasses and food matching sessions curated by some of the city's top restaurants will also be taking place over the two days.
