PaperBoy Wine selects new paper bottle manufacturer

Published:  11 April, 2014

PaperBoy Wine bottles, which were supplied by GreenBottle who helped manufacture the first paper wine bottles, have entered into a three year agreement with Ecologic Brands, Inc., an American company, to supply the bottles.

GreenBottle, which supplied Truett-Hurst, the brand owner of PaperBoy Wine, has reportedly encountered some financial difficulties and entered into administration. GreenBottle had partnered last year with Kingsland Wines to be the exclusive supplier to the UK with the Thirsty Earth branded paper bottles.  The concept did gain traction with people in the wine trade in the UK, particularly at the London Wine Fair last year, where the bottles were on display.  However, the bottles did encounter some challenges getting on to UK retailer shelves and the launch was delayed.

PaperBoy launched in the US just five months ago in November and was well received in the market.  With the transition to the new manufacturer, which is located in California, there is some concern that supply stocks may dip in early 2015.

Ecologic's production facility is located in Manteca, California, which will provide Truett-Hurst with greater management and transportation efficiencies, particularly since the wine is sourced from Mendocino and Paso Robles regions in California.

Phillip Hurst, co-founder and chief executive officer of Truett-Hurst, said: "We are enthusiastic about the early sales and consumer pull for our PaperBoy brand. We have been impressed with Ecologic's manufacturing approach and this agreement illustrates our confidence in the product and commitment to producing packaging produced locally."
