Alliance Wine has boosted its Scottish sales team and added Portuguese wine Delaforce to its portfolio.
Alliance is looking to increase its Portuguese offering over the next few months and also aims to expand its local business in Scotland following significant growth.
The firm poached Bibendum's Graeme Sutherland to add to its Scottish sales team - he will focus on the Edinburgh area. The company is recruiting for additional sales and marketing staff to ramp up its Scottish activity.
Alliance will be the sole importer and distributor of the Delaforce range, including the Ports and wines, which will be available exclusively to the independent and on-trade sectors.
Miriam Spiers, sales director at Alliance Wine, said: "As a company we are looking to develop our business on a local scale with increased tastings and events regionally throughout Scotland which is why we are looking to grow the team.'
Garech Byrne, Alliance's Portuguese wine buyer, added that the firm was planning on expanding its wine portfolio: "We are looking to strengthen our Portuguese offering and feel that these wines are a strong start to expanding this side of the portfolio."
Alliance will be stocking the full range of Delaforce Ports, as well as a straight Touriga Nacional, a Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon blend and an Alvarinho later on in the year, all from the Douro Valley. The whole portfolio will be available to the trade from March 10.
