Family-run Chilean winery, Viña Montes, has moved its UK agency from PLB to Liberty Wines, in an effort to boost its independent and on-trade business.
The Montes business, which has just celebrated its 25th anniversary, includes Kaiken in Argentina and Napa Angel in California.
South African winery Vergelegen also moved its business from PLB this month, switching to Fells.
Montes changed agencies in order to boost its independent and on-trade business, while maintaining its strong trade in the multiple retail sector. "Liberty Wines has the right penetration into all sectors of the market that are of interest to us," said Carlos Serrano of Viña Montes. "We have always taken a long-term view in the UK, and we are sure that Liberty Wines are absolutely the right partners to take us into our next phase. David Gleave and his team are dynamic, well respected, highly professional, and Liberty provides the perfect 'hand-sell' environment that we want for our wines - we very much look forward to working together."
David Gleave MW, managing director of Liberty Wines said: "Liberty Wines is excited by the prospect of selling such premium Chilean wines into the on trade and Montes offers the sort of diversity that few other producers in Chile can offer. I personally have long admired Montes, so it is the realisation of a long held ambition to work with their wines."
The Montes portfolio includes its flagship Montes Alpha and ranges from Montes Classic at entry level, a Limited Selection range, Icon wines and various individual styles known as special wines, with wines from unusual areas such as the Outer Limits range, with Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc grown in the coastal region of Zapallar.
