England rugby star opens innovative wine and coffee outlet

Published:  27 September, 2013

England rugby player and Harlequins captain Chris Robshaw has teamed up with school friend and entrepreneur Kevin Latouf to open innovative coffee shop and wine bar Black White Red in Winchester.

The café and wine bar, located in Jewry Street in Winchester, sees the pair focus on their love of good coffee and fine wine.

Black White Red will offer artisan coffees, from the usual espresso-based variants to cold-drip coffee and various dishes will be matched with different coffees. Customers will also be able to purchase bags of sustainably sourced coffee beans to take away.

The wine range, hand-selected by Latouf, will feature many small, independent producers and wines will be displayed around the café by style, rather than country, in a bid to encourage experimentation. Customers can purchase bottles to take away or enjoy on site.

On the opening, Robshaw said: "Black White Red links the atmosphere, ambience and service of a specialist, premium coffee bar with the exclusive identity of a wine bar."

Latouf added: "Wine and coffee are not usually linked together, but there's a close relationship in many ways: from the manufacturing process, to the similar rituals, to the way flavours are described and the different styles that pair with different foods. Not only will we match wine with food, but also coffee with food. We want to create an environment that is entertaining, active and addictive!"

Black White Red is located at 28 Jewry Street, Winchester SO23 8RY. Visit the outlet's Facebook page for more information - facebook.com/blackwhiteredwinchester.
