Hayward Brothers hopes its recent acquisition of fellow independent merchant distributor World Wine Agencies will help widen its collective reach among independent retailers and provide them with a greater selection of wines.
The deal, which was completed earlier this month, will widen Hayward Brothers' current portfolio of wines, with a more extensive choice of New World wines, as well as give both parties greater economies of scale. The new business is to be called World Wine Agencies Ltd and will operate as a subsidiary of Hayward Brothers.
Nicky Burston (pictured), founder of World Wine Agencies, said: "The two companies found each other primarily because of a fundamental synergy in principles; working in partnership with high-quality estates, building on in-depth marketing expertise and knowledge of the independent sector, to deliver effectively against producer strategy and customer needs."
"Between World Wine Agencies and Hayward Bros, Old World and New World, traditional and modern wines all work together in a fantastic partnership with one single goal: to sell more great wines," said Robert Hayward, owner of Hayward Brothers.
Burston added: "Together we have created a joint list for the WWA portfolio of wines that are 100% exclusive to our joint businesses and to the independent sector; thereby maintaining the fundamental principles that were always very important and clearly defined by World Wine Agencies."
Robert Hayward remains managing director of the joint businesses, Tony Schendel is sales director and Nicky Burston will continue to manage the WWA portfolio as agency and marketing director and Emma Blackmore (from WWA) will stay on as key accounts and marketing manager.
World Wine Agencies and Hayward Brothers will be launching their new, joint range for the first time at the SITT Autumn tasting on Tuesday September 17 at Royal Horticultural Halls, London.
