Champagne Bruno Paillard has launched its 2002 vintage Blanc de Blancs after more than 10 years of ageing.

Bruno Paillard's release comes later than the equivalent launch at other Champagne houses, which in several cases decided to offer up the vintage several years earlier. The house is well known for its late releases, and the wine has spent a decade maturing on the lees.

The Blanc de Blancs 2002 will be available from Bibendum in the UK at £75 per 75cl bottle, said the house, which has produced a total of 5,000 bottles, 4,000 magnums and 52 jeroboams.

French artist Jean-Paul Agosti has created a label for the vintage, drawing on the theme "floral ascent" and depicting a garden with what appear to be tree branches and leaves filtered through sunlight.

"It was a relatively dry year in 2002, with 15% less rain than average," said the group. Although the year produced a relatively small harvest, warm summer weather allowed good ripening, and a combination of hot days and cold nights in September produced ideal grape-picking conditions.

Like all Bruno Paillard wines, the Blanc de Blancs 2002 has a low dosage of 5g per litre. Its disgorgement date is also printed on the back label, as is house practice.
