The Marchese Nicol Incisa della Rocchetta, owner of legendary Super Tuscan' Bolgheri Sassicaia, has bemoaned the success of Merlot in Robert Parker and Wine Spectator tastings. The marchese was speaking at a tutored tasting of his wines at the Vineyard at Stockcross on 10 May. Describing Sassicaia as possibly the first garage wine', he said that in a recent Wine Spectator top ten of Tuscan wines, eight were Merlots and one a Sangiovese.
