McGuigan adds first low-alcohol duo

Published:  05 March, 2018

McGuigan Wines has launched its first low-alcohol duo to tap Brits’ increasing thirst for such offerings.

The 0.4% abv Delight range, available now from Marks & Spencer, initially comprises a Moscato and a Rosé (rrp: £5, with plans to add a red and a sparkling variant later this year.

Pitched as a premium de-alcoholised wine, the Moscato is described as appetisingly sweet with citrus and perfume notes and a gentle spritz, while the Rosé features forest fruits and rose petals flavours with a ripe red cherry finish.

Crafted using state-of-the-art technology, which McGuigan said preserved the "premium quality" of the wines, the launch mark’s the Australian producer’s first foray into the low-alcohol wine aisle, with the “forward-thinking production process” helping to place the Delight range in an “exclusive group of superior quality, alcohol-removed wines”, said chief winemaker, Neil McGuigan.

“We’re delighted to be introducing our first alcohol-removed range into Marks & Spencer and believe that the Delight wines will fill a gap in the UK market for those consumers seeking premium versions of this increasingly popular style,” he said.

The move into low-alcohol follows McGuigan announcing the launch of a single varietal Tempranillo duo in November last year - McGuigan Torode Tempranillo which will be launched in May, followed by McGuigan Black Label Tempranillo in October.

At the same time, McGuigan told Harpers the winery would continue planting Malbec to build on the success of McGuigan Black Label Malbec, launched in 2016, which he said had played into a growing interest in the Australian style that showed “juicier, softer characteristics”.
