Inverarity Morton has appointed former chief executive officer of Tennent Caledonian Breweries, Brian Calder, to its board.

Inverarity Morton has appointed former chief executive officer of Tennent Caledonian Breweries, Brian Calder, to its board. He is taking a non-exectuive director role.

Calder brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the drinks trade and particularly to the wholesale side of the business.

"Brian is an incredibly astute businessman and knows the trade, knows the marketplace inside out," said managing director of Inverarity Morton Stephen Russell.

Calder has been through a few mergers and acquisitions during his tenure with Wallaces and then stayed with company as it was acquired by C&C.

Russell said:  "He made a very bold, but canny, decision to completely reshape the company [Wallaces Express] and then steered it over a relatively short time to become the most successful wholesaler in Scotland.  At the time of the C&C acquisition, Wallaces had a turnover of £90m and employed over 300 people."

Calder first joined Wallaces in 1975 and helped grow the wheels side of the business throughout the mid 1980s. He and Chris Cosh staged a management buyout of the company in 2003. The business later went on to be sold to C&C in 2014, where Calder remained the CEO for another year before departing.
