Henkell & Co-Gruppe sees volume and revenue rise for 2014

Published:  06 May, 2015

Henkell & Co-Gruppe financial results show that revenue increased 1.6% to €700.7m and sales volume increased by 3.1% for fiscal year 2014.

Henkell & Co currently have subsidiaries in 20 countries and are exporting to more than 100 countries worldwide. Henkell has a 60% stake in Copestick Murray which is invested in 2013.

Wine volume for the group increased a staggering 17.5% for 2014 compared to the previous year to 3.86m 9L cases.  Wine sales volumes were up "significantly" due to the success in both the Czech Republic and Hungary. According to the statement released by the company "the distinctly marketed British i heart brand, made a significant contribution to the group's robust wine business."

The results show that the sales revenue increase was entirely driven by international market expansion.  Domestically sales declined 0.8% to €315.4m and international sales revenue grew 3.6% to €385.3m.

Several of the Henkell's sparkling wine brands showed growth with Fürst von Metternich sales volume up 7% to 0.63m 9L cases.  Equally Henkell's strongest selling brand in its portfolio Söhnlein Brillant recorded double-digit growth of 12.3%  to 1.79m 9L cases sold.

Henkell's Prosecco brand Mionetto also saw sales climb 4.2%, to 1.37m 9L cases.

Despite all of the growth surprisingly sparkling wine only increased 0.6% to 3.86m 9L cases. Primarily this was due to the reintroduction of a sparkling wine tax in Austria  as well as price increases related to an unfavourable exchange rate.  According to a statement released by Henkell & Co "sales of Henkell, Germany's most exported brand of sparkling wine, were down 8.0%."

The sparkling wines produced by Henkell's Hungarian, Czech and Slovakian subsidiaries also had success within their domestic markets.
