Champagne Laurent-Perrier has revealed it is to release its latest vintage to the trade, the Vintage 2002.

Champagne Laurent-Perrier has revealed it is to release its latest vintage to the trade, the Vintage 2002.

Laurent-Perrier only declares a vintage in years when grape quality is exceptional and said it has selected the Vintage 2002 as it captures Laurent-Perrier's signature style of lightness, freshness and elegance.

The vintage is made from prestigious Crus of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. It has been bottle aged in cellars for almost eight years before being disgorged prior to release. It is expected to have excellent ageing capacity.

Laurent Perrier described the vintage as "having a distinctive golden yellow hue with green highlights and a fruity character, revealing the wine's maturity, the aroma evolves into notes of ripe fruits, and acacia honey".

It added:"A sense of complexity, depth of flavour and a still youthful freshness is gradually revealed on the palate. The long finish is marked by persistent notes of yellow stone fruits."

Commenting on the latest release, David Hesketh MW, Managing Director of Laurent-Perrier UK said: "2002 was marked by little rain and a rather mild winter. Sunny spells at the beginning of the harvest reduced the effect of the heavy rainfalls towards the end of August ensuring base wines of high quality. The Vintage 2002 beautifully captures Laurent-Perrier's House style of lightness, freshness and elegance imparted by the chardonnays of Côte des Blancs Grand Crus and pinot noirs of Montagne de Reims. I'd suggest pairing the Vintage 2002 with seafood such as grilled scallops or subtly flavoured fish including seabass, turbot or John Dory when served with a light sour cream sauce."

Laurent-Perrier Vintage 2002 is stocked in Sainsbury's (selected stores), Oddbins, Majestic and Wine Rack. RRP: from £39.99
